#MakeMineChocolate

As Easter approaches, it’s essential to remind ourselves of the true meaning of this holiday: compassion, love, and responsible choices. At Houston Rabbit Resource, we’re passionate about advocating for the well-being of rabbits and promoting responsible pet ownership, especially during Easter.

One of the initiatives close to our hearts is the #MakeMineChocolate campaign. This movement encourages individuals to think twice before giving live rabbits as Easter gifts and instead opt for chocolate bunnies. Why? Because while chocolate bunnies are sweet treats, live rabbits are living, breathing creatures that require commitment, care, and love for their entire lives.

Every year, countless rabbits are purchased on impulse as Easter gifts, only to be abandoned or neglected once the holiday excitement fades away. It’s a sad reality that we’re determined to change.

By choosing chocolate bunnies over live ones, we’re making a statement: rabbits are not disposable decorations or temporary novelties. They are intelligent, sensitive animals deserving of respect and proper care.

At Houston Rabbit Resource, we offer resources and support for those considering adding a rabbit to their family. From educational classes to adoption services, we’re here to ensure that rabbits find loving, forever homes where they are cherished members of the family.

This Easter, let’s celebrate responsibly. Let’s spread awareness about the importance of treating animals with kindness and compassion. And let’s make a pledge to #MakeMineChocolate.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of rabbits and promote a future where every bunny is loved, valued, and cared for.

Bugs’ Story

In the summer of 2023, we received a distressing report about a stray bunny abandoned near a dumpster. Initially, from the photos, it was evident that the bunny, whom we later named Bugs, was in poor condition. However, it wasn’t until we brought him into our care that we discovered the full extent of his suffering.

Bugs was infested with ear mites, and his testicles appeared to be burned, likely from standing on scorching concrete during Houston’s sweltering summer months. Immediately, we arranged a vet appointment, where Bugs was prescribed medication to alleviate his pain and treat the infection.

Bugs’s story is sadly not unique. We receive numerous reports of neglected bunnies like him, discarded onto the streets without a second thought. Bunnies, just like Bugs, are living, breathing creatures who deserve to be cherished members of a loving family. Let’s choose compassion this Easter and opt for chocolate bunnies instead of live ones. #MakeMineChocolate 🍫🐰
