Forever Home Friday: Chopper and Brook

This week’s #ForeverHomeFriday features our adorable alumnus, Louie—now known as Brook! After a successful speed date, Brook found his perfect match in Chopper, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Their bond is heartwarming, and we’re so excited to share their story of finding love and friendship.

His new mom says, “I adopted Brook, formerly known as Louie, because after adopting our first rabbit Chopper from Houston Humane Society and having him for about 8 months, I felt that he might be lonely or bored. I did some research about bonding and decided to start looking for his new friend. Chopper is a rex mix, and I really like his short and soft fur, so when I saw that there was an adoptable rex rabbit on the HRR website I was really excited. I thought Chopper was soft, but Brook’s fur was much softer!

Chopper had a speed date with Brook and one other rabbit and did pretty well with Brook compared to the other rabbit. So, we fostered Brook with the intent to adopt. We started the bonding process immediately by putting them in the same carrier on the hour-long ride home. I was texting back and forth with Michelle from HRR everyday giving her updates and asking for tips when I got stressed out about the bonding process. Thankfully, it only took 10 days for me to trust the two of them alone. Chopper and Brook were getting along so well; they were grooming each other and flopping. Brook was also doing lots binkys. I was already in love and loved seeing him happy, so we decided to adopt him!

Now they are the perfect pair. Their personalities are so different, but they get along so well. Chopper is reserved. Even his binkys are mild. While Brook is super outgoing and a little chaotic. Chopper is comfortable staying safe in the confines of our carpeted living room while Brook will venture out to explore no matter how slippery the floor is. Chopper is rarely in the mood to be pet. I was glad to find out that Brook loves to be pet and will even run to you and will sit still for a long while to be pet. Brook is so smart too. Every time I try to slow him down with enrichment, he figures out how to get to the food as fast as possible with pure aggression. He’s been learning lots of tricks alongside Chopper. I’m so happy for them and I’m glad they are now a part of our little family.

For anyone thinking of adopting, do your research! These precious animals, for some crazy reason, were abandoned and they deserve a loving home. But they also require a lot of work and a particular way of being cared for. Seeing them happy is so worth it though.”

We are thrilled for Brook and his new partner, Brook, and we wish their family all the best 🐰
