Bunny Foo Foo’s Unexpected Blessings
Every rescue story is meaningful, but some take a turn that surprises even the most seasoned among us. Bunny Foo Foo is one of those stories.
She was found hiding deep in the bushes near Lone Star College–UP, trembling and unsure, with nothing but a single carrot left beside her. Her rescuer suspected right away that she had been dumped. After some time spent offering calm voices and patience, they managed to safely catch her and bring her inside, relieved that she was now out of harm’s way.
As we were preparing to get Bunny Foo Foo into her wellness appointment, her foster called us in a panic. She had watched Foo Foo gather giant mouthfuls of hay and pack them into her box with purpose, then suddenly start plucking fur. The next morning, while adding more hay, the rescuer felt something wiggle beneath the fur and discovered four tiny newborn babies, born quietly in the night.
Now safe and supported, Bunny Foo Foo and her babies are being lovingly cared for by her rescuer with guidance from our founder and wellness coordinator, Nancy Martin. Nancy helped them create a proper nest box so Foo Foo can feed and protect her babies comfortably, giving them the best start possible.
With babies come new needs. To help Foo Foo maintain her weight while nursing and to prepare for when her little ones begin eating solid food, we are in need of baby supplies such as:
- Alfalfa hay
- Oxbow Young Adult Pellets
- Toys
These essentials help growing babies build strong bones and healthy digestive systems, help with enrichment, and support mom through the demanding nursing period.
We also need experienced fosters. Starfire’s babies, now seven months old, are still waiting for foster homes, and in just a couple of months Bunny Foo Foo’s babies will also need placements of their own.
If you would like to support Bunny Foo Foo and her little family:
• Donate baby supplies through our Baby Wishlist
• Drop off supplies at our December 6 Winter Bunderland event
• Apply to become a foster and make a life-changing difference
Thank you for rallying behind the tiniest members of our rescue. Stories like this remind us how much your support matters—especially when surprises arrive in a nest box.
